What we do with what you give us
Third Career is in a small private pilot. This page says, in plain terms, what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how to get it removed.
Last updated 1 October 2026. This is a pilot; the wording will change as the product does.
Who we are
Third Career is operated by 3rd Career Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales under company number 16906066. Our registered office is 25 Sigerson Road, Swindon, SN25 1WA.
For anything about your data, write to privacy@thirdcareer.co.uk.
Registering for the beta
If you register on the beta page you give us a first name, a surname and an email address. We use them to send you one email with the link to the first read, and, if you go on to the conversation, to invite you to it. Registering does not create an account.
When you finish the beta's second survey we send you one more email: a summary of your Experience Map and the roles your first read pointed to, so you have a copy. Both emails are sent by Resend, which acts as our processor.
To have a registration removed, write to the address above.
The sixty-second first read
To run the first read you give us a first name, a surname, an email address, and a document — a CV, a LinkedIn profile saved as a PDF, or text pasted in — and answer a handful of short questions.
The document is read by Claude, a model made by Anthropic, which acts as our processor. It reads for what you have done and what that suggests; it is told, in writing, to ignore your age, your date of birth and anything that would give either away, and nothing in our matching is allowed to see them.
If you upload a PDF we keep no copy of the file at all — only what the reader made of it. If you upload a Word document or paste text, we keep that text for thirty days so that your result page still works if you come back to it, and then a nightly job deletes it. Your answers, the reading, and the result stay so the page stays.
Separately, and with your name, email and document removed, we keep a record of the shape of the run — which questions were asked, which kinds of role surfaced, how far you got. That record cannot be joined back to you, and it is what the team looks at to improve the questions.
The fifteen-minute conversation and everything after it
This part is invite-only. Signing in is by a link sent to your email; there is no password.
The conversation, and what is drawn from it — your Experience Map, your Success Formula, your Life Fit Plan, any matches and the reasoning behind them — is kept against your account for as long as you have one. It exists to be shown back to you and to match you against roles; it is not sold, and it is not shared with an employer unless you choose to apply.
Conversations are read by Claude for the same reason the document is. If you use voice, the audio is transcribed by OpenAI and read aloud by OpenAI, and neither call reaches the matching. Voice is optional; typing works the same.
How matching works
Matching is done by software, not by a person. It scores each published role against your Experience Map, your Success Formula and your Life Fit Plan, using the reading of the role that its poster approved. This is automated profiling in the legal sense, so here is exactly what it does.
It never sees your age, your date of birth or the year you graduated. It does not use your name, your health, or anything about your family or where you were born. Its inputs are what you have done, what energises you, what you want from work, and the limits you set in your Life Fit Plan.
Those limits can rule a role out altogether: an income floor, a ceiling on hours, patterns of work you have excluded, remote work, and the places you can work. A role that breaks one is shown to you in its own section with the reason in a sentence, and a link to change that term. Nothing is hidden from you. Every role is listed, ranked or ruled out.
Today the ranking is shown to you and only to you. No employer or recruiter sees it or is told a role was ruled out for you. The software does not accept or reject you for anything. It orders a list for you to read, and what you do with that list is your decision.
The score is plain arithmetic on numbers drawn from what you told us, and the working is on each role's report, so you can see why it landed where it did. If a number looks wrong, it usually traces to something you said or a term you set. Change your Life Fit Plan and run the matching again, and the list is rebuilt from your new terms.
Every report has a box to say you disagree with part of it. What you write is kept beside the number, not instead of it: the score does not move because you objected, because a score that bent to objections would stop describing what was measured. If you want a person to look at a match, write to privacy@thirdcareer.co.uk and say which one.
Employers and recruiters
If you post a role, the description you paste or upload is kept as written, because every reading of it is traced back to a sentence you wrote. The conversation that follows is kept for the same reason. Nothing about your role is shown to a candidate until you publish it.
Getting your data removed
Anyone who took the first read can remove the whole run from the result page, and it goes at once — the run, the questions, the answers, the result. The anonymous record described above stays, because there is nothing left in it that points at you.
Anyone with an account can start their profile again from the profile page, which removes every conversation and everything drawn from them and leaves only the account. To remove the account itself, write to the address above and it is done within thirty days.
You are welcome to ask for a copy of what we hold. Write to the same address.
What the pilot is
This is early software being tested by a small number of people we have invited. It will have rough edges, the questions will change, and a result is a first pass by a machine rather than advice. Treat it that way, and tell us where it is wrong — that is what the pilot is for.
